new chapter

We are about to enter a new chapter of life here in the Hill Home. Yesterday Lily and I had a little date. First we went to a dance studio here in West Jordan and signed her up for ballet - this is a big deal!! Lily has been wanting to be in a dance class since she could talk well enough to express the desire. The above picture is of here doing one of her dances when she was about three. After the dance studio she and I went school shopping! This too was very fun and a very big deal.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I have been really nervous about sending her to school. I don't put my kids in preschool, so outside of church and our Friday night dates they really haven't been away from me for too long. I worry about other kids being mean and teasing her, I worry about pedophiles and kidnappers, I worry about the teacher treating her poorly (I was a teacher and know how annoyed teachers can get with kids), I worry about her being bratty or grumpy (something she seems to be doing a lot lately). There are just a lot of things I worry about. Plus I have actually always liked having them home with me. When I was getting her signed up for school I would have little panic attacked about sending her and thought maybe I wouldn't send her until she was a little older. Then I signed her up at a school that was a little smaller and in a quiet neighborhood and some of my anxiety sort of diminished. Then we went to kindergarten orientation I was actually starting to get excited. The closer it is the more surprised I am at how I am feeling. I am really excited for her. I know there will be mean kids and I know she will be a little snotty once or twice. But I think I am finally coming to terms with the fact that this is life and eventually she will have to learn how to live it - after all, I made it through all those things and I still turned out to be pretty awesome! So that is why going school shopping was such a big deal (wow talk about an tangent).

Luckily due to the generosity of my older sisters who have really good taste and daughters older than Lily, I really didn't need to get much for her. It was funny though, she was so uninterested - that is, until we went to try things on. Then she just thought it was such fun to prance and twirl around in all the different outfits I had chosen. She was so cute and is so excited for school to start.

Really our new chapter starts tonight - I signed Lily up for soccer and that starts tonight. So between soccer, ballet, and school she will be a busy little bee and I am going to stand by and watch my life start to become more busy. Honestly I am pretty excited about it all. I think I might be living vicariously through my daughter - I hope that isn't a bad thing.

What a Princess. Just think what these fun activities will do to help her grow as a kid. Very cool.

So, you are the nicest mom EVER! Did Diana get a single new thing for school? Nope? Didn't even think about it. Of course, my parents NEVER thought about it either. I guess I just want my kid to be as tourtured about fashion as I am. . . I digress. Ballet - SO FUN! I wish dance wasn't so darn expensive and crazy intense down here - I'm lothe to even get into the machine. Anyhow, you are an awsome mom and I love you TONS. and I really really miss you.

It IS so hard to let go and realize they have their own life. I have always hated that I don't know exactly what people are saying to them at school and what they are seeing ... I guess part of being a parent is learning to let go.

Hard!

Oh Emily! I feel your pain! I'd like to say that it gets easier in the 1st grade...but it's just as hard! I serisoulsy would do home school if...O.K., I would never-but it still is terrible to send them everyday! But, your heart will absolutely melt at the end of her first day when you see her after you've wondered all day how she did. I'm sure she will do great and love it!

The first few days are the hardest - then you'll begin to wonder how you ever survived with her home with you all the time!
Jack starts kindergarten too - I hadn't really realized they were that close in age! How fun!

So exciting! I can't believe she's already old enough for kindergarten. Good luck with the busy new life!
